The manor was where peasants and serfs worked and lived for the noble in control. The deal was that the peasants and serfs (poor) would work for the noble (rich) and the noble will give the peasants and serfs a home. It was a very unfair deal because the peasants and serfs never got a day of (except for on the sabbath/Sunday). This system was called Feudalism. In feudalism the manor was the lowest building block
with the king at the top.
Also in feudalism the king wold split land to trusted friends or relatives in exchange for trust. Then the nobles/trusted people would give smaller pieces of land to the knights for the same thing, trust. The knights would fight for the manor and the village from the vikings, a band of nomadic fighters. The poor people had little to no rights at all! Some manors would go to war with each other and many nobles combined manors going into war!
